The international standard ISO 22301:2012 outlines the obligations for organizations to assign responsibility and resources in order to understand risks, plan, establish controls, and structure their operations to enhance resilience and recover quickly from failures. By implementing an ISO 22301 compliant Business Continuity Management System (BCMS), organizations go beyond themselves and consider stakeholders and their value chain to improve the resilience of the entire business ecosystem and society. Similar to other management systems, ISO 22301 requires staff training for competence, periodic internal audits and management reviews for continual improvement. Additionally, ISO 22301 follows the same High Level Structure (HLS), making it easier to integrate into existing ISO-based management systems already in place.
