Operational Risk

This course focuses on understanding and managing operational risks within and framework of ISO standards. This course covers topics such as operational risk identification, assessment, treatment and control as well as the integration of operational risk management with other ISO standards.

ISO 31000 is the international standard for risk management, which provides guidelines and principles.


  • Introduction to operational risk: This section provides an overview of operational risk, its definition and its importance in the context of ISO standards. 
  • ISO 31000 framework: participants learn about the ISO 31000 framework for risk management, including the principles, process and components involved.
  • Risk identification and assessment: this module focuses on techniques and methods for identifying and assessing operational risks, including risk registers, risk assessments and risk matrices. 
  • Risk treatment and control: Participants learn about different strategies and measures for treating and controlling operational risks, such as risk mitigation, risk transfer and risk avoidance. 
  • Monitoring and review: This section covers the importance of ongoing monitoring and review of operational risks to ensure their effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.

  • Integration with ISO standards: participants learn how to integrate operational risk management with other standards, such as ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management).

  • Case studies and practical exercises: This course may include case studies and practical exercises to apply the concepts learned in real-life scenarios.
